When we talk about communications of the past, we think about handwritten letters, telegraphs or even emails (because now, in the 21st century, we don't use emails as much anymore) - so anyway, if we were to discuss how people communicated centuries ago before technology came in, they communicated using birds. Pigeons, to be exact. Even during the World War I & II, they used pigeons to communicate discreetly so that they're enemies wouldn't notice.
Alas, those days are long gone and it has come a long way since then. After the use of birds as a mean of communication, scientists and inventors found ways to create a way for people to communicate with one another. Famous scientists such as Samuel Morse who invented the 'Morse Code', Alexander Graham Bell who invented the telephone, Claude Chappe who invented the first non electronic telegraph and many others have invented with ways of communication to make people's life so much easier. If we were to go back in time and discuss about how everything started, it would be never ending so we'll just keep it short, on point and simple.
People communicate differently according to their time period. Way back when there aren't a lot of people can afford telephones after it was invented was probably the time where most people was still using telegrams or letters. This way of communicating is like written communication, which personally I think is really cool.
You see, telegrams are something like a post card but also like a memo, the kind that people use in the office. Here's an example of one:
A telegram is like a notice sent from one party to the other by a messenger. Have you ever watched a movie called, "The Sound of Music?" there is a scene in the movie where this boy delivered a telegram to Captain Von Trapp. It's a really good movie by the way. Anyways, back to our topic. In time, people doesn't use telegrams as much anymore but instead they started using the use of posting letters. Still requires pen and paper though, but mailing letters was a much easier way because all you have to do is get a stamp, write the address to your recipient and in a few days time or weeks - depending on where you are - you'll receive your letter. Of course you'll have to be patient in order to wait for your letter to arrive.
After the usage of telegrams and letters, more and more people were starting to afford to buy a telephone. Everywhere in the world, people started using telephones to communicate with each other (Thank you Alexander for that!) because it is so much easier to get in contact with everyone and all you have to do is dial roughly about 7-8 digits and then you're connected to the other person via the whole electromagnetic codes and such.
Again, after time goes by, the world around us evolved and changed. More and more people got creative and started to invent a higher technology and applied it to communication. Instead of just calling, people can text message which then the use of MMS - sending pictures to the other person was invented. After a while, people installed games in their mobile phones. Note this, mobile phones instead of telephones. The world is full of wonders. Anyway, I think I should stop here. I'll continue to talk about it in my next post as well as talking about the present communication.
That oughta be interesting, eh?
Till next time,
H.
